the guy who bought this painting works for a nonprofit that works to get funding for aids research. he was like “i am going to hang this in my office and it will probably offend some of my coworkers but idc because lol”

i did a really awful series a few months ago and this was the only decent thing that came out of it
when i look through my sketchbook from sophomore year i find a lot of pictures of ducks and i don’t know why because ducks are the worst
couple weeks ago i was watching my friend’s kid and scolded+grounded her for bad behavior for the rest of the afternoon. while in her room she told me she would draw a picture of me and the result was this nigh-photorealistic representation of yours truly

My reply to a question about whether I speak other languages; I wasn’t sure if the asker wanted his question published, but felt the answer is relevant to what I write about here:

Great post. Growing up knowing/learning other languages - especially languages from different root families from your native one (tangent: English is actually a Germanic language and not a Latin-based one like people often think) can really broaden your scope on the possibilities AND limitations on language in general.
I somehow always think of this when a situation comes up when I want to tell someone “Gambatte!” which is a very common Japanese saying that there is no direct English translation for. The easiest approximation is usually good luck, but for one thing I don’t believe in luck, and for another “gambatte” has the implication of hope for good results based on your own determined efforts rather than on…luck.
Terrible painting of my brother to be shipped off to the grandparents as a thank-you gift. It started off well but then I overworked it, as is my wont.
I feel like this was the true test of my watercoloring skills: turn a particularly crappy photo into a decent painting. I FAILED.
